Move over cable.

BY DAVID GRIFFIN A survey of 2,500 U.S. adults has revealed that Netflix is the No. 1 TV viewing option.

According to Variety, the Cowen Group, a financial service company, asked individuals "Which platforms do you use most often to view video content on TV?" With 27% of the vote, Netflix was the clear winner, followed by basic cable at 20%.

The results get more interesting when you look at the data from adults in the 18-34 age bracket, where the disparity is even greater. Here is a complete list of the preferred video content platforms from the survey below, adults 18-34 years of age.

  • Netflix (39.7%)
  • YouTube (17.0%)
  • Basic Cable (12.6%)
  • Other (8.7%)
  • Hulu (7.6%)
  • Broadcast (7.5%)
  • Premium Cable (3.5%)
  • Amazon Prime Video (3.4%)

Netflix continues to impress with its drive to outpace the competition, promising 1,000 original programs by the end of 2018 and the backing of $8 billion in development money. It is surprising to see that Amazon Prime Video is in last place. Perhaps the Jeff Bezos controlled company will improve their reputation in the streaming market with their nearly $1 billion investment in a multi-season Lord of the Rings franchise? Only time will tell.

It might be the only way we can break Facebook’s hold on our lives, it could cement Apple’s reputation as a privacy-minded service provider, and more importantly, it wouldn’t be that hard to get people to use it.

Instagram’s co-founders announced that Adam Mosseri, the platform’s vice president of product, is now in charge. Mosseri will oversee all functions of the business and recruit a new executive team, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger said in a statement. The co-founders announced their departure last week — more than six years after Facebook purchased the company for $1 billion. “We remain excited for the future of Instagram in the coming years as we transition from being leaders at Instagram to being just two users in a billion,” said Systrom and Krieger.
