NETFLIX IS NOW MORE POPULAR THAN BROADCAST, CABLE AND YOUTUBE FOR TV VIEWING, SURVEY SAYS

Netflix is more popular than cable TV and YouTube, according to a survey from financial service company Cowen & Co., reports Variety. The survey, conducted in May, asked which platforms respondents used most often to view video content on TV. 27% of respondents answered Netflix, followed by 20% for basic cable, 18% for broadcast TV and 11% for YouTube. Among those aged 18-34, Netflix scored 40%, followed by YouTube at 17%, basic cable at 12.6% Hulu at 7.6% and broadcast TV at 7.5%.

Yelp Can't Be Forced to Remove Defamatory Reviews, Court Says

The California Supreme Court said Yelp could not be ordered to remove negative reviews about a San Francisco law firm, even though a lower court judge ruled the posts were defamatory, The AP reports. In a 4-3 opinion, justices said that the removal order could undermine the viability of Yelp's review platform. The ruling is seen as a victory for internet companies, who had warned that the case could be used to stifle free speech online.

Lyft Bikes is now a thing

Just like its main rival Uber has recently acquired bike-sharing startup Jump Bikes a popular ride-sharing company Lyft may soon be adding bikes to its app, after it acquired the bike-share company Motivate, reports Tech Crunch. Known in New York as CitiBike; in D.C. as Capital Bikeshare, and in San Francisco as Ford GoBike, Motivate is the largest bike-share company in the U.S. The terms of the deal are unknown, but the bike company was rumored to be in talks with Lyft for a price of approximately $250 million. Lyft competitor Uber bought Motivate competitor Jump for $200 million a few months ago.

Instagram’s co-founders announced that Adam Mosseri, the platform’s vice president of product, is now in charge. Mosseri will oversee all functions of the business and recruit a new executive team, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger said in a statement. The co-founders announced their departure last week — more than six years after Facebook purchased the company for $1 billion. “We remain excited for the future of Instagram in the coming years as we transition from being leaders at Instagram to being just two users in a billion,” said Systrom and Krieger.
